Dental caries is a transmissible, infectious disease that damages tooth structures, resulting in cavities. It is commonly known as tooth decay. If untreated, the disease can lead to severe pain, tooth loss, and infection. It is a disease to which people of all ages are vulnerable, but as a problem it is most severe in children. The College of Dental Surgeons of Saskatchewan is the public protection and governing body for the 400 dentists in Saskatchewan. The CDSS licenses dentists and attempts to ensure that the members of the public receive a competent and timely delivery of quality care within the bounds of clinical circumstances. The advancement of quality oral health care to all members of society is the goal of the CDSS. The CDSS is concerned that this serious disease receives little public attention and investment that is required to bring it under control.
